Cervantes certainly did not disappoint this year!
Wind and weather conditions were perfect on all three days of the event with wind speeds of up to 25 knots ... on the Saturday it peaked over 25 knots. The event was held from 3 to 5 January 2025 in the picturesque blue lagoon of Cervantes. Starting at Hansen's Bay Beach and finishing at Thirsty Point, the fun and fast downwind 9km slalom race incorporates the entire bay and 4 flat water gybes. We can certainly look back at a very successful event with over 50 participants in all disciplines!
Friday's GPS Speed racing was done in the Bay between Cervantes Island, Hansen's Bay Beach and Thirsty Point between 1pm and 4.30pm. Amongst 24 GPS sailors, we saw Craig Spottiswood ending up overall First (32,45 knots), Chris Lockwood - Second (32,17 knots) and Claude Lecoq - Third (29,43 knots) in the Men's division. Jo Wellings entered as the only Lady in the GPS competition with an overall result of 27,22 knots. The day ended with a fun BYO BBQ at the Cervantes Country club. On Saturday, the first briefing was scheduled at 11am with the first race starting at 12 noon. Three more races were managed at 1.15 PM, 2.30 PM and a delayed start at 4 PM due to a small racing incident and a slightly altered course when the 2nd marker buoy went for a walk up the beach from the wind. Overall a fun day of racing with many happy windsurfers, wind ranges between 20 and +25 knots, getting stronger in the afternoon. In the evening the presentation ceremony was held at the Lobster Shack where our competitors, friends and family were dining on fish and chips, Lobster or steak sandwiches. The Sunday was kicked off with a nice breakfast at the oval and followed by some TRIBAL material testing at Hansen Bay. Another fun day on the water and many happy faces!
